DISRUPTION OF RECRUITMENT ACTIVITIES AT RAINBOW STATION

Date: 23 June 2026

A concerning incident unfolded yesterday during a planned recruitment drive held at the Rainbow recruitment station, where organizers faced unexpected resistance from company management, resulting in a complete disruption of the day’s activities.
The recruitment team had strategically positioned themselves approximately three meters away from Rainbow’s main gate, ensuring that their operations were conducted within the bounds of public property and in full compliance with applicable regulations. The intention of the initiative was to engage with workers and community members, providing them with an opportunity to learn about union representation and to participate in recruitment efforts.
However, despite maintaining a lawful distance from company premises, Rainbow management objected to the presence of the recruitment station. It is alleged that the company’s leadership expressed clear discomfort with the initiative, particularly due to concerns surrounding union involvement among its workforce. In response, management escalated the matter by contacting private security personnel, who subsequently involved law enforcement authorities.

Police officers arrived on the scene following reports made by Rainbow management. Upon their arrival, organizers engaged with both security personnel and law enforcement, clearly explaining that their station was situated on public land and that they were exercising their lawful right to assemble and conduct recruitment activities. The recruitment team firmly maintained their position, asserting that there was no legal basis for their removal.
Despite these clarifications, prolonged engagements and disputes between the recruitment team, Rainbow management, and security forces ensued. These interactions created a tense environment that ultimately prevented the recruitment process from proceeding as planned.
As a direct consequence of the disruption, the recruitment station was rendered non-operational for the duration of the day. The team was unable to engage with potential recruits, and no registrations or successful recruitments were recorded. What was intended to be a productive and impactful outreach initiative was instead overshadowed by conflict and obstruction.

In conclusion this incident highlights ongoing tensions between labor organizations and certain employers regarding workers’ rights to association and union participation. It raises important concerns about the challenges faced by recruitment teams operating in public spaces, even when acting within the framework of the law.
Moving forward, organizers have indicated their commitment to continuing recruitment efforts and advocating for workers’ rights, while also seeking to address and mitigate such disruptions in future engagements
